Project Controller – Government Contracting

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is seeking an experienced Project Controller to support a portfolio of government contracts for a growing organization in the aerospace and government contracting sector. This is an immediate contract opportunity expected to last approximately 2–3 months while the organization conducts a permanent search, with the potential for conversion for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on Unanet experience and a proven background in government contracting project controls. This individual will partner closely with project management and finance leadership to manage contract financial performance, forecasting, budgeting, and cost analysis.

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is seeking an experienced Project Controller to support a portfolio of government contracts for a growing organization in the aerospace and government contracting sector. This is an immediate contract opportunity expected to last approximately 2–3 months while the organization conducts a permanent search, with the potential for conversion for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on Unanet experience and a proven background in government contracting project controls. This individual will partner closely with project management and finance leadership to manage contract financial performance, forecasting, budgeting, and cost analysis.
Responsibilities
- Provide project control support across a portfolio of government contracts totaling approximately $15M
- Partner with Project Managers to monitor the financial performance of assigned contracts
- Manage and monitor labor, subcontractor costs, and other direct costs
- Track actual spending against budgets and forecasts and identify potential overruns or underruns
- Prepare and maintain Estimates at Completion (EACs)
- Perform detailed variance analysis
- Manage fee calculations and contract financial reporting
- Develop and maintain forecasts, budgets, and financial projections
- Monitor contract performance against cost and schedule objectives
- Support financial reporting, compliance, and contract requirements
- Assist with financial risk identification and resolution
- Support both Time & Materials (T&M) and Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contracts
- Develop and improve project control processes and reporting practices
- Government contracting experience required
- Hands-on Unanet experience required
- Strong understanding of project controls within a government contracting environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with EACs, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, cost management, and financial reporting
- Experience supporting government contracts, including T&M and Fixed Price structures
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with project managers, finance leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Location: Remote; Eastern or Central time zones preferred
- Duration: Approximately 2–3 months
- Conversion: Potential to convert to a permanent position for the right candidate
- Consultant Pay Rate: Approximately $65–$75/hour
- Start: Immediate, with an opportunity for transition and knowledge transfer
