Interim Controller

Location: Middletown, RI
Work Arrangement: On-site preferred; remote may be considered for candidates with the right background
Engagement: Full-time interim, anticipated 9–12 months
Start: Immediate

We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to support a growing government contractor providing engineering services but now expanding its manufacturing contracts. This is a highly visible, opportunity combining traditional controllership, government contracting compliance, manufacturing cost accounting, systems and process improvement, and strategic financial leadership.

The ideal candidate will bring a CPA with public accounting/audit experience, strong manufacturing and cost accounting expertise, and a solid government contracting background. Experience with Deltek Costpoint is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate financial statement, government, and other audits while working with external auditors, advisors, banking partners, and other stakeholders. 
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, AP, AR, payroll, cash management, fixed assets, financial reporting, and month/year-end close.
  • Evaluate and strengthen accounting systems, internal controls, policies, processes, and reporting.
  • Support accounting processes and systems related to government manufacturing contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, DFARS, DCAA, and DCMA requirements.
  • Manage indirect rates, incurred cost submissions, provisional billing rates, contract accounting, labor/timekeeping compliance, and government audit readiness.
  • Support the implementation and expansion of inventory management, product costing, product codes, procurement/purchasing processes, BOMs, and manufacturing cost allocations.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial analysis, and executive reporting.

Qualifications

  • CPA with public accounting/audit experience required.
  • Manufacturing experience required, including cost accounting, inventory management, procurement, and product costing.
  • Strong government contracting experience, including indirect rates, incurred cost submissions, and DCAA/compliance requirements.
  • Deltek Costpoint experience required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant Controller-level experience.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial analysis, and executive reporting skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA required.
  • Hands-on, collaborative leadership style with the ability to operate strategically while remaining comfortable working in the details.
