About the Opportunity
Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a growing manufacturing organization in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to identify an experienced Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This executive-level consultant will provide strategic and operational financial leadership during a critical transition period while partnering closely with the CEO and leadership team.
The Interim CFO will oversee all aspects of finance, accounting, treasury, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, banking relationships, and operational performance management. This individual will play a key role in strengthening financial visibility, enhancing controls, optimizing working capital, and supporting the organization's continued growth and profitability.
This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on finance leader with deep manufacturing experience and a proven track record guiding organizations through leadership transitions, growth initiatives, acquisitions, restructurings, or operational transformations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board, and executive leadership team.
- Provide financial insight and strategic guidance to support business objectives.
- Evaluate and enhance financial reporting, processes, and internal controls.
- Develop strategies to improve profitability, cash flow, and operational performance.
- Identify risks and opportunities impacting the organization.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities.
- Develop rolling forecasts and monthly financial performance reviews.
- Analyze revenue trends, margins, labor costs, SG&A expenses, and manufacturing performance.
- Establish and monitor financial and operational KPIs.
- Deliver actionable recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
Manufacturing Finance & Cost Accounting
- Oversee cost accounting and standard costing functions.
- Analyze product profitability, inventory management, and manufacturing efficiencies.
- Evaluate production variances and develop margin improvement initiatives.
- Partner with operations leadership to strengthen plant performance and cost controls.
- Support inventory accuracy and cycle count programs.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Lead cash forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital initiatives.
- Optimize accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory performance.
- Manage banking relationships and debt compliance requirements.
- Oversee 13-week cash flow forecasting processes.
- Monitor borrowing base calculations and lender reporting obligations.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Oversee accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, and general accounting.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Lead month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Enhance reporting packages and executive financial dashboards.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Assess, strengthen, and document internal controls and governance processes.
- Coordinate annual audit activities and manage external auditor relationships.
- Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and lender requirements.
- Review and improve accounting policies and procedures.
Special Projects & Business Transformation
- Support ERP optimization and financial systems improvements.
- Participate in M&A, integration, carve-out, and restructuring initiatives as needed.
- Lead profitability enhancement and cost reduction projects.
- Assist with capital planning and investment analysis.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Previous experience as a CFO, Interim CFO, VP of Finance, or Finance Director.
- Manufacturing industry experience required.
- Strong background in cost accounting and inventory-intensive environments.
- Experience managing banking relationships and debt facilities.
- Experience supporting privately held, family-owned, or private equity-backed organizations preferred.
Preferred Credentials
- CPA, CMA, and/or MBA preferred.
