Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a confidential, publicly traded digital assets organization to identify an experienced Interim Digital Assets Controller for a critical 3-6 month engagement. This fully remote opportunity will play a key role in managing the organization's digital asset accounting, reconciliation, financial reporting, and year-end activities while supporting a growing crypto treasury operation.
This is a highly specialized role. Candidates must have direct cryptocurrency/digital assets accounting experience. Applicants without crypto accounting experience will not be considered.
Compensation: $100-$125/hour with flexibility for exceptional candidates

Position Overview
The Interim Digital Assets Controller will be responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting of the company's digital asset treasury, including digital asset holdings, staking activity, and related on-chain transactions. This individual will own the crypto sub-ledger process, ensure accurate financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, and maintain strong SOX-compliant controls surrounding digital assets.
This is a hands-on role that requires both technical accounting expertise and a strong understanding of blockchain-based transactions and crypto treasury operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain the crypto sub-ledger environment, including wallet and exchange integrations, transaction classification, cost-basis tracking, journal entry generation, and synchronization with the general ledger.
- Reconcile on-chain wallet activity and balances to custodial records, exchange statements, and the general ledger.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation exceptions, breaks, and unclassified transactions.
- Manage accounting for digital asset holdings, staking rewards, gains and losses, and related transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP and ASU 2023-08.
- Lead digital asset accounting activities during monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules, disclosures, and documentation related to SEC reporting requirements, including 10-Q and 10-K filings.
- Maintain and evidence SOX 404 controls related to digital asset accounting and reporting.
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors regarding crypto and digital asset accounting matters.
- Partner with treasury, technology, and external custodial teams to enhance processes, documentation, and automation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience supporting publicly traded companies, including SEC reporting and SOX compliance.
- Direct, recent experience accounting for digital assets and cryptocurrency transactions.
- Hands-on experience with Cryptio strongly preferred. Experience with comparable crypto accounting platforms such as Bitwave, Ledgible, or TaxBit may also be considered.
- Strong understanding of digital asset accounting under U.S. GAAP, including ASU 2023-08, staking income, fair value accounting, and transaction fee treatment.
- Demonstrated success managing complex reconciliations and high-volume transaction environments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
