Overview
Cherry Bekaert Staffing & Recruiting is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support end-to-end payroll processing for a growing organization. This role will play a key part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and experienced with multi-state payroll environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for a multi-state employee population
- Review payroll data for accuracy, including hours worked, bonuses, commissions, and deductions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Maintain payroll records and assist with audits and reporting requirements
- Support tax filings, garnishments, benefits deductions, and direct deposit processing
- Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with month-end close activities
- Partner with HR and Finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
- Assist with year-end processing, including W-2s and related reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience
- Knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and compliance
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Workday, Paylocity, or similar
- Strong Excel skills and ability to handle large data sets
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
Preferred Experience
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus
- Experience in high-volume or fast-paced environments
- Exposure to HRIS systems and benefits administration
- Experience in industries such as professional services, nonprofit, or government contracting
