Overview
Cherry Bekaert Staffing & Recruiting is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a growing organization. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across a multi-state workforce while driving process improvements and supporting broader HR/Finance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing on a bi-weekly/semi-monthly basis for multi-state employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax filings and reporting
- Lead payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
- Oversee payroll systems administration, maintenance, and enhancements
- Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration of payroll data (benefits, bonuses, commissions, etc.)
- Manage and mentor payroll staff (if applicable), providing training and development
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and process standardization
- Support external audits and respond to payroll-related inquiries
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, Paylocity, or similar)
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting large or rapidly growing employee populations
- Exposure to benefits administration and HRIS integration
- Experience in industries such as professional services, government contracting, or multi-entity environments
